The Battle of Iwo Jima was the first American Attack on the Japanese Home Islands. The 35-Day Battle from February 19, 1945 to March 26, 1945, 22,786 Japanese soldiers on the island 21,570 of them died and only 216 were captured then rest were assumed dead.
